X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF)

For non-destructive analysis of the full range of elements Wheal Jane use x-ray fluorescence For non-destructive analysis of the full range of elements from sodium to uranium, our state-of-the-art X-Ray fluorescence spectrometer is capable of analysing elements in concentrations from high percentage down to ppm level.

Our instrument is a PANalytical X-Ray Fluorescence Epsilon 3XL Energy Dispersive Spectrometer, a top of the range and highly reliable XRF capable of fast turnaround. Due to its ability to analyse all elements simultaneously, it is a highly cost-effective alternative to the more conventional methods such as wet chemistry analysis.

In our laboratory, XRF uncalibrated analyses are frequently carried out on pressed pellets, loose powders and rock chips. Full preparation services are available in-house for larger samples.

We can also carry out scans using a standardless program and reported as approximate percentages as metals or oxides. Alternatively, semi-quantitative scans can be reported as major, minor and trace elements.

We can set up calibrated programs for a wide range of elements using reference materials and classic chemical analysis methods. The Epsilon 3XL also has a large sample mode for analysis of larger samples that are not to be pulverised. This gives the advantage of having a non-destructive option even for samples too large for the fitted sample carousel.
